We are the State Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing Corporation (SPMC), a beacon of excellence and calibre in medicinal drug manufacturing in Sri Lanka, with 35 years of expertise under our belt.

The SPMC was established under the State Industrial Corporation Act no 49 of 1957, through a grant aid from the Japanese Government through JICA in June, 1987. Since then, SPMC hasn’t wavered from its commitment to manufacture high-quality and effective drugs which are on par with both local and international quality standards for an economical and affordable costs. From its inception, the SPMC has grown into a hallmark of medicinal drug manufacturing in Sri Lanka and hails in a leading position in the industry of pharma as the only state sector corporation that engaged in manufacturing pharmaceuticals in Sri Lanka.

Maintaining the superior quality of the medicinal drugs are our utmost priority and to achieve that, we have set our manufacturing calibre above par the internationally expected quality standards. All the pharmaceutical products manufactured by SPMC possess the quality standards in accordance with British Pharmacopoeia (BP), United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) and SPMC’s own benchmark standards.

The manufacturing facilities of SPMC maintain an ultra-clean atmosphere in accordance with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) requirements. The ecosystem of those manufacturing zones is strictly controlled by monitoring the temperature, humidity, microbial count and particulate matter constantly. The SPMC initially kicked-off with a 50,000 sq.ft. of floor area and in later years it expanded up to 75,000 sq.ft. with three separate manufacturing zones which are equipped with modern Japanese and German machinery and technology.

Since the inauguration of SPMC in 1987, the Japanese work ethics and culture has been cultivated partially within the corporation with regards to the supreme product quality and equality among teammates. Today we have an organization with an unmatched team spirit and unprecedented teamwork which served as the cornerstone in building an unparalleled reputation as a manufacturer of high-grade pharmaceutical products. And that reputation till serves as the most effective force behind the SPMC’s excellence for 35 years and counting.
