Production Department
The State Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing Corporation (SPMC) is the only government-owned pharmaceutical manufacturer in Sri Lanka, playing a critical role in ensuring a reliable supply of essential medicines to the national healthcare system.
The SPMC manufacturing facility was originally designed and constructed by Japanese architects, and the core manufacturing equipment installed in the plant is based on Japanese and German pharmaceutical engineering technology, reflecting internationally recognized standards in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
The production plant is equipped with high-capacity, cGMP-compliant machinery, including tablet compression machines, capsule filling machines, coating systems, granulation equipment, blending units, and inspection systems. These integrated technologies enable SPMC to manage complex pharmaceutical manufacturing processes while maintaining high levels of efficiency, consistency, and product quality.
To ensure strict regulatory compliance and product safety, the facility is designed with separate manufacturing zones dedicated to General pharmaceutical products, Penicillin drugs and Hormonal preparations
All manufacturing operations are conducted in controlled cleanroom environments in accordance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). The Production Department is staffed by qualified pharmacists and technical personnel who undergo continuous training to maintain the highest standards of operational discipline, contamination control, and quality assurance.
SPMC is committed to continuous technological advancement and process improvement, ensuring that production lines remain modern, efficient, and capable of meeting the evolving needs of the healthcare sector while operating within a robust Quality Management System (QMS).
With a diverse range of packaging formats designed to support both government healthcare institutions and the local pharmaceutical market, the Production Department ensures that medicines manufactured by SPMC are safe, accessible, and ready for patient use across Sri Lanka.
